Remember the old thing you’d see in cartoons where some characters get into a cardboard box and pretend it’s a spaceship? Well, Nintendo took the cardboard and said “Wanna be a robot?” On the heels of the obscenely successful Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has come out of the gate again with another one of those “Nintendo ideas” that makes you go, “What the hell are you doing, and take my damn money!” Yesterday, Nintendo revealed a video on their youtube channel entitled “Nintendo Labo” which has garnered over 5 million views in a day. The video shown here….right…hold on I got it…
..there we go, shows Nintendo managing to create innovative peripherals and games with, you’re seeing this right, cardboard. This is so random, and so oddly charming that they would take another risk on something so out of, yet inside the box. Seeing Nintendo making do it yourself “fun” reminds me of the feeling I got as a kid playing with legos, or erector sets. Except now, with the finished product, you can use it to play a video game. I can see this being a massive hit with families, but even adults such as myself who are 30 years old, the innovation alone has me interested, and the games that could spawn from it are only as limited as the ideas Nintendo can supply. I’m looking forward to see how Labo progresses going forward.
