God damn, being an xbox fan can be brutal sometimes, or, most of the time. Between lost exclusives, cancelled games, and delays, it’s been a rough ride. Well here Microsoft is again, taking another one on the chin. Microsoft recently announced it will be delaying this much anticipated title for the upcoming Xbox One X, (touted as the most powerful gaming console ever created) on which Crackdown 3 was supposed to show off the power of the new system. Crackdown, originally slated for November of this year, has been pushed all the way to spring of 2018. Brutal. However, Microsoft Studios General Publishing Manager (what a mouth full..), Shannon Loftis spoke to Polygon regarding the reason for the delay.
Lotis said, “We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date. However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that’s campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018.” Hopefully the game delivers something truly spectacular given the delay. I do recall seeing many reports that the game was somewhat underwhelming the last time it was shown to the public. I can’t help wondering if public perception lead the studio to go “we can do better.” Unfortunately, this also puts more egg on the face of Phil Spencer, who really seems to want to change public perception of Xbox gaming, and bring in more full or times exclusives to the console. This guy just can’t catch a break.
I’ll keep updates rolling if anything changes. I for one an most disappointed that I won’t be getting my Terry Crews fix any time soon. I guess this will have to do for now.
